Since reading about the free inquiry project for EDCI 336, I have been really excited about using this as an opportunity to learn how to play the guitar, again.

My first venture into playing guitar started when I was in elementary school. Following the lead of my older sister, I wanted to play the guitar and I begged for a guitar for Christmas (I still have that guitar over 40 years later!). I loved playing that guitar and made up lots of songs with my friends. Perhaps became those songs were too painful for my parents to listen to, I finally took lessons. Unfortunately, I was soon a teenager and although I still went to my lessons, I never practiced. I mean NEVER! The lessons ended.

Since then I have made many attempts at trying to learn guitar, but for one reason or another I did not put in the effort needed. A couple of years ago while staying at a friend’s house in Whitehorse, I heard him play. He was teaching himself using You Tube videos. I was hooked, again. When I got home I got myself a new guitar and committed to learn guitar. I started using You Tube videos, got the Ultimate Guitar app and started to downloaded songs. I was one my way. This time it was going to happen.

I did practice for 4 or 5 months, then life got too busy and my guitar sat in the corner weeping. I would want to go pick her up and console her, but I always had so many other things to do that I could not let myself engage in the guilty pleasure of playing the guitar.

I realize that making learning how to play the guitar as my learning inquiry project is PERFECT!!! Learning guitar is no longer engaging in a guilty pleasure when I should be doing a whole host of other things, it is one of the things I have to do.

Okay, I really HAVE to go play guitar, it is my homework after all.
